MumAbroad was founded by Rebecca Laidlaw, an Internet Marketing consultant & Carrie Frais, a Journalist.

We are both Mums of two small children living in Barcelona and both originally from the UK. We decided to set up MumAbroad in 2008 after being surprised at the lack of information available on services and activities available for babies and children in the areas  where we live and it soon became apparent that there was a growing niche for an English language website which would offer parents from the International Community valuable information on the likes of child-related services, schools, family activities, shops and restaurants. Since initially launching in Barcelona, the site has grown to include the whole of Catalunya, Madrid, the Costa Blanca, Andalucia and the Balearic islands.

We believe that, in the majority of cases, parents are the best judge of of anything child-related, so that is why our site is based purely on recommendation. We have been asking mums in Catalunya, the Community of Madrid, Baleariac islands, Andalucia and the Costa Blanca about education, services, groups & activities, outdoor facilities, shopping for children and for mum, restaurants, day trips and holidays in their region. In our interview section, you can read about other mums' experiences of living in Spain as well as interviews with a whole host of childhood expers. In our Mums in Business section, you can find out about our Mumpreneurs and how they are managing to juggle work and family life. On our forum you can meet other mums in your area as well as buy and sell anything baby or child-related, chat with other mums on any topic of your choice, post up your latest recommendation, advertize your services and much more!
