Little Land (Sant Gervasi)
- What is the philosophy of Little Land? Our philosophy is based on Waldorf and Montessori methodologies, in which children are driven towards a balanced and clear development of their intellect, towards a rich sense of art and a healthy and active goodwill in a way that their thoughts, feelings and actions confront everyday life's challenges. Children absorb like sponges all the necessary and requiring information for their every day actions. Children learn to talk, write and read the same way they learn to crawl, walk, and run, that is to say, in a spontaneous manner. That’s why we based our ideas by respecting the child’s own capacity to learn. In this way she reaches adulthood with the capacity to face up to living problems.
- From what age until what age do you accept children? Little Land is a children’s centre for all children from the ages of 6 months to 3 years-old for the day-care in English and for 3 to 5 years-old for Easter, Christmas and summer camps in English
What language is used in the main? English, secondly Spanish and some Catalan.
- What is the teacher/child ratio in each class? 1 teacher per 6-7 children.
- Is there flexibility in hours for daycare? We are flexible with the Bubble group (6 month-olds to 18 month-olds) For the Balloon group (18 month-olds to 3 year-olds) we encourage parents to come in no later than 9:30 am so that the children have a positive transition into our morning circle and the rest of the daily activities.
- Are there part-time options (days)? We have 3 options: 9-12pm, 9-3pm, and 9-5pm. Mondays through Fridays.
- Can you give us an idea of what food is offered to children? We introduce all the basic nutritive food children need like vegetable, lots of fruit, proteins, carbohydrates, and lacteal.
- What kind of activities are available to children? Mondays through Fridays they find in our activities calendar: sports, music and dance, arts and crafts, theatre, environmental knowledge, cooking and the Bits Intelligence Program. Helping them to motivate and develop their own interests, while at the same time providing them with personal development and integrity as well as increasing social awareness.
- Do you need to live in the Sant Gervasi area to send your child to Little Land? No
- How does Little Land differ from other nurseries in Barcelona? Our Montessori methodology and pedagogy, the English language , our native teachers: New York, Canada, Montana, and Native Spanish.
Web cam service is available. Plus, Little Land's "Open door" policy where parents and care givers are welcome to drop by anytime.
- Are parents allowed to come in to nursery classes if they like? They can not stay in the class but they are welcome to come any time and see their children through our "see through curtain." This way we don't create anxiety on those other children whose parents cannot come over to see their children.
- At what stage do you require parents to apply for a place for the following year? Around February. That is when most of daycares open their registration enrollment for the next years course.
