Can Sala, Montornes Del Valles

Recommended by Belen Simarro

Can Sala, Montornes Del Valles Image

Located in Montornes (not far from golf Vallromanes, on the Masnou-Granollers road), Can Sala is a restored XIV century country house. There is also a farm with lots of animals and where children can play and feed the rabbits, ponys, deer, etc.  The restaurant is basically Catalan typical food (grilled meat, pan con tomate, grilled vegetables...) and there's a children's menu. You can also hire a "monitor" for a couple of hours who can supervise the kids and walk them through the area while parents have lunch (:

Comments:

"Can Sala is fantastic for a day out for the whole family with kids. The staff there is great, they really take good care of the animals, they introduce kids to nature and the farm chores. Children can approach the animals: there are rabbits, pigs, ponys, deer, zebras, and many others. Children can play with rabbits, feed them, they can see deers, take a pony or a donkey ride. I remember there is this huuuuge parrot who can speak and loves being cuddled. Quite impressive because he's got a massive beak and talons but he is totally tamed. And it is quite a nice approach since animals are in the open air and well taken care of. There is a restaurant because the idea is to spend the day there. They don't charge guests for the visit to all the animals, they make their living out of the restaurant, which is quite basic but not expensive either. There is also this childminder or "monitor" service after kids have had lunch in case adults prefer to have a longer meal together" (BS, March 2012)

El Guirigall – Port de El Masnou

Recommended by Theresa Mills

Located at the port in El Masnou next to the Chinese restaurant, el Guirigall is a super child-friendly place we visit again and again.  The menu is simple with items such as roast chicken, salads, croquettes and roast potatoes and the service is fast and friendly.  They have chairs for small children, plenty of space for push chairs and they often give toys to the little ones when they leave.   It’s also inexpensive – a typical meal for the three of us runs around 25 euros.  If you ask, they will also provide you with a ticket to cover part of your parking cost.

Restaurant Carme Ruscadella - Sant Pau

Recommended by Angela Schweizer

Carme Ruscadella is one of Spain's top and most international women chefs. Her restaurant, San Pau, is set north of Barcelona in the old Catalan town of Sant Pol de Mar in an old villa with a garden overlooking the sea. The cuisine is contemporary and creative, using fresh products from the region’s orchards and vegetable gardens. The restaurant also offers fine Spanish and International wines. Carme recently opened a second San Pau restaurant in Tokyo. If you are lucky to visit either, order a 'menú de degustación' with storyboard included. The restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday (all day) and Thursday for lunch.
Nou, 10 – 08395 Sant Pol de Mar 937600662 santpau@ruscadella.com www.ruscalleda.com

Comments:
A menu will set you back 119 euros .7% VAT (A la Carte 110-120 euros .7% VAT ). There is only one highchair available but there is space to keep a buggy at the table. Special dishes can be prepared for children.

Xocolat - Teià

Recommended by Cliodhna Egan

Cafe on the main high street in this pretty little village in Maresme.

Comments:

"There are seats outside so you can pull up for a coffee with a buggy and the playground is across the road. It often occupies that period before bedtime for me! Parking is not an issue in Teia either...you can usually get a space around the cafe and playground" (CE, Jan 09)
