The Costa Daurada is located in the south of Catalonia and boasts a coastline stretching 92 kilometres. The 60 family friendly beaches have been recognised for their quality with awards by the European Foundation for Environmental Education, the enviromental management standard ISO 14001 and the ECOplayas (Ecobeaches) award for cleanliness. The Catalan Goverment have granted certification to the whole area as a Family Tourist Destination, which highlights places that have services to make tourism enjoyable when accompanied by children. The countryside of the Costa Daurada is described by the local tourist board as being of great contrast - unspoilt areas of great beauty and interest: to the south, the Delta del Ebre Nature Park and the Ports de Tortosa-Besseit National Reserve, and to the west, the Prades Mountains. In contrast along the coast are many costal resorts popular with tourists, such as Salou and Cambrils with an abundament of nightclubs and restaurants. The Costa Daurada is an ideal destination for family holidays, catering for beach lovers (the name Costa Daurada means golden coast) with many activities, theme parks and hotels dedicated to family enjoyment. For those wishing for a more rural retreat, the surrounding countryside offers plenty of outdoor activities for nature lovers.
