Barcelona Summer Camps

  1. Barcelona Summer Camps - Barcelona City Council

This summer 27 nursery schools in Barcelona will offer activities for children. Registration for the available places for leisure and sports activities is open until 10th May. The municipal programme of educational and leisure activities for children and young people between the ages of 1 and 17 during the summer holidays will be able to offer its services to 113,591 youngsters this year. This figure represents an increase of 16% on last year, with the novelty that 27 municipal nursery schools will be offering 1,240 places for children between the ages of 1 and 3 years old. The Mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, explained that, with the summer presenting more opportunities for educational and leisure activities for children and young people, 353 activities had been programmed this year, co-ordinated by 282 leisure and sporting bodies.

The City Council safeguards the quality of the activities offered in the summer and also wants to ensure the participation of all children and young people, irrespective of their economic conditions or any disabilities. For this reason, the summer holidays campaign comes with a wide-ranging system of financial aid, covering up to 90% of the activity’s costs. These are specifically addressed to families with annual gross incomes equal to or less than 8,291.50 euros per member of the family unit. The fifth Deputy Mayor for Social Action and the Citizen, Ricard Gomà, pointed out that, for some years now, Barcelona had sustained the rate of growth in the number of activities offered by the summer campaign.

"There are 212,000 children and young people between 1 and 17 years old living in the city, so the programme of educational and leisure activities we offer for the summer is quite significant", Gomà pointed out. He also stressed the importance of integrating children and young people with disabilities into the summer activities, which have monitors to provide support. "Thirty percent of the children who had access to a monitor last year had more than 75% disability", he added.

From 10 May you can register for the 113,591 places, divided into 353 activities, 266 leisure related and 87 sports. You can get more information from the Council guide, available on the website www.bcn.cat/vacances or by calling the information phone number, 010.

The campaign offers youngsters the opportunity to enjoy Casals d’estiu day events, activities in municipal nursery schools, camping and hiking, at summer camps or stays abroad or elsewhere in Spain. There are also 17,970 places for the Campus Olímpia, to make the most of the city’s sport’s facilities, and 3,713 places for the Casals d’estiu. For further information on financial aid, all the districts will have help points available for interested families, to provide information and receive applications. All documentation requesting financial aid should be presented between 13th and 23rd May
