Interview with Becki Milne

What is your name, age and how long have you lived in Moraira, Costa Blanca?
We have lived here one year

What nationality are you and your partner?
We are both British

How many children do you have and what are their names and ages?
We have one four year old

Do you work and if so what to you do?
No I dont work

How well integrated would you say you and your children are?
We are not integrated with the Spanish so far because we don't speak the language yet and there is a large english population in the area.

What language do you speak to your children?
English

What is your impression of childcare and education in Javea area so far?
I'm happy with the bi-lingual nursery/school my son attends. The day is split into 2- Spanish in the morning and English in the afternoons.

What school do your children go to?
Rainbow Nursery

Why did you choose this school and are you happy with your choice?
It was recommended by a friend.

Where you live, how good are the facilities for children (shops, restaurants, activities etc)?
Restaurants are very child friends and there are lots of beaches and parks etc. Not much to do with children when it's wet or cold though.

Are there any particular activities, groups, classes etc for children in Moraira that you would like to recommend?
We haven't attended any as there is not very much for boys of nursery age.

What do you think are the main advantages and disadvantages of being a parent from the International Community living in Moraira?
There are very few work opportunities here. Local Spanish schools teach in Valenciano, the local dialect, so children have to face learning 2 new languages.

What advice would you give for anyone having a baby or thinking of relocating to Costa Blanca with children?
Make sure you have work sorted out and be prepared to adapt to a different way/pace of life, especially if moving from a large city.
