Tarragona

  1. Tarragona is considered the most important and famous Roman town in Spain and has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site. Located on the Costa Dorada (the golden coast), famous for its sandy beaches and crystal waters, Tarragona also enjoys close access to beautiful mountain ranges and nature parks. The villages surrounding Tarragona, such as L'Ametlla de Mar are popular with European expats and perhaps the most famous is one of Spain´s most popular tourist destinations, Salou, with its abundament of restaurants, activities and attractions for young tourists.

  2. "There is a lot of pressure on children to do well in exams, and they are expected to read and write from an early age. My oldest daughter has ADD (attention Deficit Disorder) and the teachers and school don’t seem to be ready to cope with this, so I have to pay for extra tuition to help her. The school is near my home and quite small, taking everything into account I’m reasonably happy with it."

  3. Keith Armstrong, Director of International House, gives a personal insight into life in Tarragona: "Tarragona is a great place to live if you are looking for somewhere cultural and with a good quality of life but without the urban problems often associated with larger cities."

  4. "L'Ametlla has an excellent school system and after school activities are good but I would only recommend it to a young family if the parents had some means of supporting themselves. Most businesses here are family concerns and work for foreigners is quite hard to come by. I would NOT recommend it if the family were unable to amuse themselves as the only entertainment is the pub and I have watched many young couples slowly fall apart during only 4 years."
