    Hi mums,

My husband will be getting his MBA at IE so we are moving to Madrid from San Francisco in September with our 4 month old son. We've lived in Spain before in Sevilla but need advice about the move to Madrid. I would greatly appreciate any advice.

    In specifac:

    1. What are good neighborhoods for a young family, we won't have a car and are looking for something reasonable but nice- and furnished, any websites where we can start looking? Price Range? I am hoping to stay below $1000 euros-will need realtively easy access to Salamanca (IE is there)
    2. I would love a reccomendation for English speaking pediatricians
    3. Moms groups? Gyms with childcare?

Any other advice I would really appreciate! Thanks in advance!

    Hola,
When moving to Madrid, I found this rentals site very useful www.idealista.com
All in english, you can choose the ''furnished'' option.

Listed below are playgroups in Madrid, where mums stay and play -
JellyBees - Thursdays from 11 - 12.15 at En un Lugar de Chamberi (www.enunlugarde.es)
    Shake Rattle & Roll - http://www.shakerattlerollmadrid.webs.com/
    St Georges Playgroup - http://www.underthefigtree.es/web/Welcome.html
    Sticky Fingers Playgroup - http://playgroupmadrid.tripod.com/

Babydeli - Also english playgroup every morning from 10.10 to 12 which is like a mini daycare (guarderia), where you leave your child there to stay and play, they are supervised by 2 teachers. http://www.babydeliworld.com

Unfortunately I haven't found gyms in central Madrid with childcare. Even the very fancy womens gyms in Salamanca (O2 wellness and Arsenal) don't provide this. However, one option is to leave your child at babydeli playgroup and head to the womens gym up the road (Gymnasio Femenino on calle Hermosilla). Though be warned, it's very difficult to leave the comfort of babydeli and resist the lure of coffee and a good book/ chat in this free time instead.

Hope this helps, goodluck with the move!

    Hi there,

We are a young spanish/american family living in Madrid. I highly recommend the idealista website. You can search by neighborhood as well as other criteria. I recommend our neighborhood in Chamberi. It is very Spanish, lots of families, good metro connections, very pleasant and not far from the city, and best of all close to the canal Isabel park. We are in the Vallehermoso section, but the Rios Rosas section would put you very close to IE. Line 7 takes you to Gregorio Maranon, where IE is, in just 3 or so stops. For a nice 2 bed furnished you should expect to pay about 1200 Euros. Prices are coming down, but very slowly. There is another accomodation website as well, started by two IE alums, http://www.dflatmadrid.com/dflat-housing/secure/home/showHome.do

    Hope that helps!

  1.
I keep recommending the Ibiza area, in the Retiro district, not far from IE. It should be a bit cheaper than Chamberí, but not a lot, and you can find 2 bedroom flats for 1000 euros.
I've been recommended José Carlos Velasco by an American friend, who works in Principe de Vergara, takes some private insurances and speaks English, but haven't got round to use him as we're happy with our local social security paeditrician.

If I hear about gyms with childcare, I'll let you know.
    Cheers
