Hiya, I am 3 months pregnant and living near to Gijon in Asturias, Northern Spain. I am interested in having as much of a natural birth as possible... eeeeek - is that possible in Spain??? I keep hearing horror stories that tell me otherwise. Does anybody know any contacts in Asturias or Spain who can help with this matter? Are there any groups/midwifes or hospitals that specialise in more natural births? Any tips or pointers would be much appreciated... Cheerio, Kate x

Hi Kate, here in Barcelona I was helped in my quest for a natural birth by a wonderful doula. While not a midwife, she gave me excellent advice and support before, during and after the birth (a natural birth in a hospital).

Apparently, the only active doula in Asturias is Laura Sánchez: laura_sanchez_torres@hotmail.com
    Article about her: http://www.lne.es/aviles/2010/11/21/antojo-laura-sanchez/997277.html

My bet is that she would be the person to ask about natural birth in Asturias!

    Good luck with everything!

Hi Kate, you could contact the great women of the local breastfeeding group: Amamanta asturias. You can find them at amamantarasturias.org. I know many of them have had a great birth. Additionally you could ask "El Parto Es Nuestro". It is an organization specially created to give support women like you ;)
    Good luck,

    Hi Kate!

I was wondering if you found what you were looking for? Am a mom to be too, living in Gijón and desperately hoping to find a way to bring my child into this world through water birth. I'd love it if you could share any info you found. Thanks!
