Hi Sarah, my name is Sara too! I have lived in Pedreguer (between Denia and Javea) now for over 8 years and love it! I have three children, William 8 years, Megan 20 months and Freddie (due any day now!) Whether you choose Denia or Javea to live there are lots of wonderful Spanish and International nurseries and schools and lots of mums and tots groups. Do you know whether you want to go the spanish way or international? My son is at an international school only because he was born prematurely and is profoundly deaf, although he now hears as we do as he has a cochlear implant (all of which was done here). Megan will go to spanish school as its our intention to carry on living here as long as possible. I have friends with children in the international schools and friends with children in spanish schools and everyone is happy with their choice. Do you know the area well? x

Thank you! Denia is lovely its our favourate town and like your husband I had been coming here since were about 8! The Firs is now called the Firs Foundation and is part of Xabia International College and its fab. Its where my son William has been since he was two and a half, he is now at the XIC Primary but I still go to the Firs on a Monday morning for their mums and tots group. Good luck and if you want to meet up when you are out please get in touch, it can be hard when you first move here to make friends but it doesn't take long.... x

Hi Sarah, my name's Jen, I have lived in Javea since May last year. My son Fionn will be 4 in December and my daughter Eva will be 2 in August. Fionn attends the local Spanish school which he loves and his Spanish is very good, he started in sept. They go from 9am till 4.30pm or you can collect them at 12.30pm and take them back at 3pm. If they stay the full day you pay 80euros per month by direct debit for a 3 course lunch. Fionn started going the whole day in January and his Spanish has dramatically improved.

Eva goes to nursery in Gata which is a 15 min drive away, it costs 80 euros per month for 5 mornings per week from 9.30am till 1.30pm but they are pretty flexible on times. She used to go to Fantasia which is in Javea, it is also good but was not so flexible on times and was more expensive. My husband works offshore for 2 weeks at a time so I need the mornings free to keep sane !! The kids will be going to summer school at rainbow nursery in Javea, it's lovely and if you are looking at international schools is definately worth a look, it has a fab website. If you need anything give me a shout.

Hi Mama's, my name is Adhuna. I currently live in India and am considering moving to Barcelona with my 2 daughters aged 11 and 4. I am very keen to explore the Waldorf school, If anyone has the address and telephone no that would be helpful. however if anyone knows of any good options that i could also consider and research via any web or mail address, i would be very grateful for input.
Also any tips on getting started with paperwork, legalities etc towards this move would be a real help too.

Thanks Jen I think when we move to denia I'm gonna look at Spanish and international see what's best for ellis, are the international school fees expensive? Are there many English at fionn's school? How's life in javea for you, is there lots of things to do with family.

    Sarah
  2.
Sarah, think the schools are quite expensive, check out their websites. Fionn is the only english speaker in his class as he is in the valenciano class, his school is the only one in javea that has a catellano class too, all the British kids are in that class. I am actually glad he was put in the V class as he has learned the language very quickly. I imagine all the schools in Denia are Valenciano as it is a much more Spanish town, do you speak spanish ?. Javea is great for the kids when the weathers good, we do struggle if it rains as there are not many things to do for young kids. There is a small softplay which you can leave the children at which is good and indoor pools but I do miss all the activity centres in Glasgow, I suppose Scotland is just better equipped for bad weather ! Hi Jen, thanks for advice, my Spanish needs to be improved, Jason can speak it quite well, how about you? Children pick up the language quickly so Ellis can teach me! I,m gonna checkout rainbow nursery, what's this summer camp they do? Sarah x
  3.
Hi Sarah, my spanish is basic, I go to a weekly 2 hour class at the language school in Javea which is good, Steph's is good and Fionn's is excellent ! So we get by.

The summer camp runs through the summer hols except the 3rd week in aug, it's 100 euro's per week per child from 9am till 2pm this includes lunch and a one to one swimming lesson every day, so quite good, am hoping Fionn will be able to swim properly by the end of it. When are you coming out ?

    Jen x
  4.
Hi Jen, we might be out June or July time so we can check out properties and schools. Do you know about the medical system, do you have to pay? At the moment it all seems along way off! But you never know with property market, were looking at property direct from the bank in denia as this seems to be best option at the moment!
It will be nice to meet up when we come out
    Sarah x
  5.
Hi Sarah, you will need health ins if you both live and work in spain permenantly, we don't as Steph works offshore so we are entitled to Spanish healthcare, although we are still waiting on the form !!! I have used my ehic card a few times and have been seen promptly and without any hassle. I had renewed them just before we moved so they will last another 4 years. We will be in Scotland for 2 weeks from 13th july till 30th july but would love to hook up if I am about. Any more questions don't hesitate to ask. J x

Hi Jen, thanks for your advice I'll be in touch once we know when were coming out! Sarahx

Lilly, my name's Jen and I have lived in Javea for a year, I have 2 children a son Fionn who is 3 and a half and a daughter Eva who is 21 months. I live in between the port and the old town which is great as I can walk to both. We had intended on our son attending the port school which is within walking distance but we lost our place, long story..... registering your child is a complicated task when you do it in a hurry !

The areas you will be looking at all require a car and you would need to drive to shops/ schools etc however if you are more than 3km from the school you will be entitled to free bus and lunches. My son attends the arenal school, this was my last choice as I have to drive there and it's a very big school, however my son has settled well and as it's only the nursery years I can change him when he begins primary at 6years old. Have you considered looking in the small towns of Gata de gorgos or Benitachell ? these are both 15 mins drive from Javea and you get more for your money, also you will not have to drive to school/shops etc. The schools in both towns have an excellent rep. I like Javea but it is very touristy from may to sept and is very expensive. I f you are definately set on Javea I would look at houses in the old town, port or arenal area, anything you need to know just ask.

Thank you for your input Jen.

I am more than willing to look at the surrounding villages, especially if they have good schools. We are not looking for the touristy feel and would like to embrace the spanish culture instead! :)

Can you give me any info about very nice villages around?
Benitachell looks nice (on google images! lol)
    What about
    Moraira
    Cumbre del Sol
    or
    La Granadella

Are these all small villages in their own rights and with local schools?

Is there an area you would recommend ?

    Hi lilly,
I,m Sarah and me and family will be moving to denia hopefully at some point this summer! Been looking at international schools in javea and so far I quite like the sound of firs school part of xabia international! Denia is really lovely town! Very spanish, and stylish,my boyfriends parents have had a place there for 26 years, there's such a buzz there with lot of things going on throughout year! I,m really looking forward to a change of lifestyle! But a little scared at the same time! It will b great to get together with all you from mums abroad! Like you I have found this website very helpful!

Lilly, Benitachell is nice, the school has a good reputation and it has an indoor pool and arts centre where they run an english speaking summer school, drama classes for kids and fitness classed for adults. It also has supermarkets, shops and a nice community feel, it's only about 10/15 min drive from Javea.

Gata is same distance and is much more spanish, my daughter goes to nursery here, it is a nice little town.

I think cumbre is just an urbanisation we stayed there for a week on holiday once and there were no shops within walking distance, although it may have changed, I think Granadella is the same. Moraira is a lovely town although quite a lot of old expats live there we thought about moving there but we stayed for a week in february and it was totally deserted. Hope this is of some help, anything else just ask.

Hi everyone. My name is Laura and I am moving to Denia the end of August. My husband has already been there for two weeks working, and me and our kids, Cameron 11 and Ciara 9 will be joining him shortly. I was really hoping for some advice of what the best local Spanish schools are in Denia or the surrounding areas and how easy you all found it to register them etc. My husband and I, after a lot of thought have to decided to try the children in the local schools as we hope they are still just about young enough to intergrate well. However if they don't settle in well, we will move them to one of the international schools. Any advice gratefully received. I am super excited about the move but am just wanting to get all the details finalised. Many thanks

I have a relocation agency www.sunshinerelocations.com the main aim of our service is to source appropriate properties either rental or buying for our clients, working with a property brief and then build a property portfolio before we view. We also have different relocation packages to help with obtaining NIE numbers from re-registring an English plated car. If you feel that this service could be of use to you please take a look at the website or email at info@sunshinerelocations.com Tel:01158882798

    Hi everyone,

My name is Vicky and I will be moving to Javea with my husband and 2 year old daughter in the Springtime next year (2013).
We have visited Javea many times as my parents live there but we desperately need information about schools and how easy it is to make new friends.
We have a great social life here (Leeds) and don't want to hang out with my parents all the time :)
My daughter also goes to lots of activities and I'd like her to start a nursery as soon as we move there.

We are thinking of renting first, maybe in Bentitachell as we don't want to live among the holiday makers, does anyone have any information that would help us?
We both drive and apart from my parents house, the port and the arenal, we don't know that much about Javea.
We are looking at international schools for my daughter. Does anyone have any information about the firs/XIC or LAUDE?

We will be over on holiday in November and I plan to do some investigating. Any help would be much appreciated!!!
    Many thanks
    Vicky
