"Living in the Retiro/Salamanca area there are many schools to choose from, and I looked at many. Initially I sent my son to a Concertado, but found there was little parent involvement encouraged and it was v. religious. So changed at the beginning  of 2 year of infantil to a wonderful public school. His teacher was like a second mother, very interested in his personal development, full of useful suggestions, and actively encouraged parents to come in There was a  parent rota; reading stories, arts and crafts, cooking and science experiments, an excellent way for any parent to observe the class dynamic and environment" (AL, July 08)

Comments:
"All 3 children have been very successful, despite their very different personalities.....This is the feature that I like most about the school. They provide detailed feedback on homework and they are always willing to arrange a meeting if we feel the need. So all in all very positive. They also happen to be relatively inexpensive. However, they do have waiting lists for most years. About 80% of their intake is Spanish, but the teaching is entirely through English (except of course for Spanish and French)" (TC, Dec 08)

"As you are visiting Holy Mary Catholic School, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you my family’s experiences with this school as my son , attends Holy Mary as one of the Reception pupils.
Mr. Hurst, Marta, and María Riva de Aldama explained their project, the values they said that they were going to instill in our son’s education such as the respect, discipline, and the importance of a good education that accompanies the development of knowledge in a Catholic environment full of care and love, were enough to convince me that Holy Mary was the school for my son.As this year comes to a close, I am certain that I have taken the correct decision. Ángel is very happy at Holy Mary. Holy Mary has created a familiar environment where he feels confident, knows exactly what is expected of him, and receives daily encouragement that makes him desire to be a better student and person. A big part of my son’s life is cultivated in school and that means effective communication between home and school is crucial for his development and education. Holy Mary pays great detail to this aspect to the point in which we punctually receive information about school events, periodical reports, and we are informed daily about how Ángel spends his time in school. They also provide many ways for me to communicate with the school staff about any events regarding our son.
To give an example of how effective this communication is, I would like to mention something that happened to my son. Last October, he had to go through a surgical intervention, which kept him away from school for a month. Throughout this time, Holy Mary kept us fully informed about the work which were been done in class in his absence and gave us sources to help our son in his proper return.
The academic aspects of Holy Mary have also surpassed our expectations. The school has established a system in which each child's effort is valued, giving them the desire to improve. Reception children receive homework every day, which is not only a useful way for us to see their improvements daily and involve ourselves in their formation, but also a way to help our children create study habits which will prepare them for many years to come.
Holy Mary completes its curricular classes with a variety of extracurricular activities that aid in rounding off the formation of our children. Among the many activities that are available are the computer club, which reinforces our children’s contact with new technologies, different sports clubs that enable them to value effort and teamwork, and literature and art clubs. The school also organise periodically conferences for parents in which they talk about relevant aspects in the education of our children.
Due to my profession (I work in Relations with the European Union), it is especially important that my son goes to an exceptional British School that assures me that in the supposition of an eventual transfer to Brussels, he will be prepared to continue his classes in a school outside of Spain. I firmly attest that Holy Mary correlates exactly with the kind of education that we need for our son.
I would like to thank you for your interest in Holy Mary Catholic School and I hope that in your visit to the school you get the opportunity to see by yourself and appreciate the great effort been made by the entire staff of Holy Mary in educating our children"
